The past two weekends I had the honor of being a guest vendor at The Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly MI. It is always great to do this show. I see friends that I don’t usually get to see. I get to sell to amazing people who love the puppets. It really is a treat. I could have done without the rain, mud, or really hot weather the first weekend, but that is what you get for doing an outdoor event rain or shine! I can’t wait to go back next year! If you seen me either of these weekends, say hi and let me know! I love hearing from you.
So for the past month I have been working on a set of 6 puppets for comic creator Jim McClain who has a great comic out called “Solution Squad” We met at the Cherry Capitol Comic Con in Traverse City this year. It has been a great collaboration to bring his comic book characters to life in puppets! I am very happy with the way the puppets have turned out! It was a pleasure working with Jim! I hope to do more work like this. Truly this was so wonderful to bring someone’s vision to life. I hope this is the first of many projects like this!
Several of the puppets had great challenges for me. The first being that I don’t normal put noses on my puppets. I really like how the noses turned out. Radical has a very large nose, and this gives him a very unique look. Abscissca has goggles that I needed to construct in blue and yellow and I needed them to be adjustable so they can be worn in several locations, on her face and on top of her head. Absoluctia actually has hair that changes color. This was a real challenge. I ended up making two wigs for her, one red and one blue. I used Velcro to fasten the wigs to the head of the puppet. I love it. The wigs turned out fantastic and it is something I will be able to use in the future. Overall I think the puppets really captured the look and feel of each character and I can’t wait to see what Jim does with them.
